It’s only right that we start off our list of movies like Divergent with this film. We’re sure that everyone has, at the very least, heard about this movie. The Hunger Games gives you a thrilling adventure that follows the rebellious Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, as she fights for survival.

There really shouldn’t be any more reason to watch the movie other than Jennifer Lawerence starring in it! In all seriousness though, this is a phenomenal movie, and if you liked Divergent, you are bound to love this one!

The Hunger Games Movie Description

The old America is nothing but a dream in this now desolate world. The Capitol of Panem now controls the 12 districts that currently reside in what’s left of America. Panem maintains control by implementing the Hunger Games. Each district is required to select two tributes to participate in the games.

The tributes must be one boy and one girl. Everyone must watch the games as they are televised. During the games, the tributes of the 12 districts must fight to the death until only one survives. However, a new hope for the people arises when Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers as a tribute.

2.  The Maze Runner

Is it really a list of movies like Divergent if it doesn’t have Maze Runner on it!? What would you do if you woke up in a situation where you have no memory of your past life and find yourself in the middle of a giant maze?

We like to think that we would be as brave as Thomas, but in reality, we all know we’d sit there scared out of our minds. So, since that’s the case, Maze Runner allows us to live vicariously through Thomas’s adventure from the comforts of our homes.

With no memory, a teenager named Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) wakes up in the middle of a giant maze. Greeted by a group of teenagers that also have no recollection of their past life, Thomas learns that they are in the same situation as him. Thomas quickly joins the group of runners who go out into the maze to try and find a way out.

However, things aren’t as easy as they seem. Riddled with mindless killer creatures, the runners must also worry about the Maze continually morphing and changing. These estranged teens must now all work together if they want any chance of escaping.

3.  Ender's Game

Would you want to have everyone’s lives hang in your hands against an alien invasion!? Well, that’s what Ender Wiggin is going to experience!

Honestly, this kid is an absolute beast! He literally scores at the top of his class for space combat! If we had to choose anyone we want to have by our side during an alien invasion, we would select Ender!

Alien forces named Formics attack the Earth but end up defeated. However, this is not the last of the Formics that Earth will see. Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley) who defeated the Formics the first time must find and prepare someone else to take his place.

Luckily, through a military program designed to find the next Mazer, one recruit stands out significantly. His name, Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield). Ender, now becoming Earths last hope, must rely on what he learned in training with Mazer.

4.  Tomorrowland

A beautiful futuristic world filled with things that one can only dream of having!? That’s what you get with Tomorrowland! This movie makes you wish that you lived in a time where there are jetpacks, ray guns, and all the other futuristic items you can think of!

Tomorrowland Movie Description

A girl named Casey Newton (Britt Robertson) comes across a special pin. Unlike other pins, this one transports you to a futuristic city named Tomorrowland. However, she is transported back to her time when the battery in the pin dies.

She is able to track down the pin’s origins which leads her to a man named Frank Walker (George Clooney). Casey must now convince Frank to take her back to Tomorrowland and must also persuade him that the future is worth saving.

5.  Edge of Tomorrow

Where To Watch

Have you ever thought having a do-over would be awesome? Well, if so, you most likely don’t want it to go the way that William Cage had to experience it. We don’t believe that anyone in their right mind would want to start their day over and over for an alien just to end up killing them again! However, it does make for an exciting viewing experience!

Edge Of Tomorrow Movie Description

A military officer with no combat experience is sent on a mission with no chance of survival, his name, William Cage (Tom Cruise). Killed by aliens within minutes, Cage learns soon after that his journey doesn’t end there. For some unknown reason, Cage wakes up again and repeats everything he went through that day. Cage realizes that every time he dies, he restarts the day.

With every life, he becomes more experienced, beginning to survive longer in the war that kills him over and over again. Eventually, his efforts bring him in contact with Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt). Cage believes that she has the answers to fix what is wrong with him and even possibly end the ongoing war.

6.  Snowpiercer

Where To Watch

This movie is absolutely glorious and violent! If you’re like us, then you are used to seeing Chris Evans as Captian America! Well, in all honesty, we didn’t even recognize him at first! He takes on a much darker role in this movie, and it definitely makes it worth the watch!

Snowpiercer Movie Description

The second ice age has come, and Earth doesn’t have many survivors left. The only known survivors left now live on a train called the Snowpiercer. Separated into different sections, Snowpiercer houses all classes from the rich all the way down to the dirt poor.

However, the poor want more than just living prisoned in the back of the train. A man named Curtis (Chris Evans) plans to lead a revolt against the rich to better their living situation. With nothing to lose, Curtis has no limits.

7.  Passengers

Where To Watch

To wrap up our list of epic movies like Divergent we have another one set in space! Though this movie is, in a sense, a “love story”, don’t let that detract you from watching it! We absolutely love space movies, and this one did not disappoint whatsoever!

Passengers Movie Description

A ship named the Avalon houses 5,000 colonist in hibernation pods on a journey through deep space towards a new home, a planet named Homestead II. This journey will last for 120 years. 30 years after launch the Avalon experiences a collision with an asteroid, damaging the ship and some of its systems. In turn, the ship’s computer wakes a colonist named Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) up 90 years too early.

After a year of loneliness, Jim wakes up a passenger named Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence) despite wrestling with the moral ramifications in doing so. Jim now has a secret to keep as Aurora grows closer. However, the two soon learn that the ship and its 5,000 passengers are now in grave danger. It’s up to them now to save the ship even if it costs them their lives.
