Loved The Hunger Games? DON’T Miss Out On These Similar Movies!

We love everything and anything to do with The Hunger Games. Both the books and movies are incredible and have kept us entertained for hours! The Hunger Games series provided us with an epic story of non-stop action and with amazing characters. We recently went back to re-watch all of them and they left us wanting more! That brings us to why you are here.

If you are like us, then you want to find the best movies like Hunger Games that can give you that same level of excitement. Lucky for you there are plenty of movies out there that are similar to The Hunger Games and are just as good.

1.  The Maze Runner

To start off our list of movies like Hunger Games, it’s only right we start with the Maze Runner series! This series and the next one on this list are a given you’ll like them if you enjoyed The Hunger Games. These two share many similarities, and if you haven’t seen them, definitely give it a watch.

Maze Runner Movie Description

Arriving in an elevator, teenager Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) has no recollection of his past life when he wakes up in the middle of a giant labyrinth. All the others in the maze also have no recollection of who they once were.

Thomas quickly becomes comfortable within the group and shows off his unique perspective on everything which inevitably gets him promoted to a Runner. The Runners set out and explore the maze to map out every detail in hopes of finding a way out one day. Along with Teresa (Kaya Scodelario), who is the only female in the maze, Thomas must try to convince the others he has found a way out.

Divergent is the other given. It has a strong female lead who is different from those around her and causes the most change than anyone that came before her. It’s everything you could want and if you haven’t seen it, you should change that now.

Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) lives in a society split into five different factions. When a person enters adulthood, they must choose and commit to a single faction for the rest of their lives. Tris commits to Dauntless who pursue bravery over everything else.

Her initiation into the faction uncovers something dangerous about Tris. She is a Divergent. Someone who can’t just fit into one faction but excels at all of them. It isn’t long after this discovery that Tris uncovers a coming war that threatens everything and everyone she has ever loved.

With this one we are touching on the dystopian part of The Hunger Games. It bloodier, grittier, and simply badass. You’ll enjoy this to the fullest with the unmatched chase scenes and action sequences. We highly recommend Mad Max.

A tyrant named Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) now rules the Wastelands years after the collapse of society. He enslves countless survivors inside the Citadel, a massive desert fortress. Things take a turn when a warrior named Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) leads Joe’s five wives on a dangerous escape.

Along the way she teams up with Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), a former slave of Joe’s. They are equipped with and a massive armored truck called the War Rig and are badly outnumbered. There chances of survival are slim as they try and outrun the ruthless warlord in a treacherous high-speed chase across the desert.

Next up we have a horrifying one. This will be for you if you enjoy the battle royal aspect of The Hunger Games. Though this isn’t fighting to the death either. Just read the description and it should be enough to get you very interested.

Circle Movie Description

50 strangers find themselves stuck in a deadly room with no recollection as to how they got there. Each of them face eminent death as they have to vote for which person dies next until only one is left standing.

5.  Hanna

If you want another strong female kick-ass lead, then here you go. This girl is ridiculously skilled and will demolish anyone who comes at her. If you like this one we also recommend the Amazon show Hanna, which is also amazing!

Hanna (Saoirse Ronan), now a teenager, has spent her life being raised by her father in the Finnish wilderness. He has trained her, her entire life making her the perfect assassin.

She is sent on a mission by her father that takes her across Europe as she doges agents sent by a dangerous operative named Marissa (Cate Blanchett), who used to work with her father. As Hanna comes closer to reaching her target she begins to uncover things about her past which makes her question her humanity.

Unlike Circle, this is a true fight to the death battle royal movie. A bunch of kids stuck on an island having to kill each other to survive! If that is what you want then that exactly what you’ll get with this one and damn it’s good!

Battle Royale Movie Description

A group of 42 9th grade students are sent to an island and are given a map, food, and a variety of weapons to chose from. More importantly, they each have an explosive collar around their neck which is set to explode if a rule is broken.

They each have the mission of killing each other until only one of them is left standing. Only the last person will be allowed to leave the island. If there is more than one left standing, the collars will explode and kill everyone.

Next up we’ve got The Giver. The movie shares many similarities with The Hunger Games, and you’ve most likely read the book due to it being a very popular school reading! If you didn’t know there is also a movie and it is good!

Ending our list of movies like Hunger Games, we’re closing it off with a bang! This movie has to be one of the greatest out there. If you want to see the fall of an oppressive government, then you’ll want to put this one on your screen.

V For Vendetta Movie Description

London is a policed state run by a corrupt fascist government after the world war. V (Hugo Weaving) has had enough and decided to use terrorist tactics to fight the oppressing government he now lives under. He has become one of the most notorious vigilantes to ever live.

Used to working alone, things change when he saves  Evey (Natalie Portman) from the secret police and finds himself a partner in his war against the countries oppressors.


We believe that the films above are the best and most similar movies to The Hunger Games that you can watch. However, there are countless more awesome movies like the Hunger Games that you can still watch. Just because they aren’t on the list above doesn’t mean they’re not good!
