The Shining Movie Description

Jack Torrence (Jack Nicholson) gets a job as a winter caretaker for the Overlook Hotel in Colorado. Jack plans to use the hotels’ peace and solitude to help get over his current writers’ block. He moves his family which includes, Wendy (Shelley Duvall) his wife and his son Danny (Danny Lloyd) up to the hotel for the winter.

As time begins to pass, Jack’s writing continues to go nowhere. Jack begins to suffer mental break downs and begins to have intrusive thoughts that get worse as he spends more time in the hotel. Eventually, Jack becomes a homicidal maniac that only has a single goal – to terrorize and kill his family.

However, Cole may have found someone he can confide in. A psychologist named Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis). Crowe attempts to help Cole find the answers he is looking for to better understand his unwanted supernatural abilities. Consequently, the two discover soon after, that the path they take will lead to answers they both weren’t ready for.

A man named Nicholas Van Orton (Michael Douglas) has made a successful living by being a banker. However, he finds himself ill-content with his life. In an interesting turn of events, his alienated brother Conrad (Sean Penn) makes an appearance on Nicholas’s birthday. He presents his brother with an unusual gift: a game that is personalized and requires the player to participate in real-life.

A company called Consumer Recreation Services runs this game. After initially not wanting anything to do with the game, Nicholas reluctantly accepts. The game begins harmlessly. However, it quickly takes a turn for the worse leaving Orton to fear for his life.

A patient at Ashecliffe Hospital, located on Shutter Island and home to the clinically insane, has disappeared. Her name, Rachel Solando (Emily Mortimer), who had murdered her three children. Called to investigate, U.S. Marshals Edward “Teddy” Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his new partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) head to the island.

After arriving, a storm leaves them stranded on the island and unable to return to the mainland for a few days. Regardless, they continue their investigation. Daniels and Auel start to realize that things are not how they seem in the hospital. Quickly learning they can’t trust anyone, the two Marshals lives may be endangered.

Soon after though, to Nina’s surprise, she is notified that she will portray both the roles. However, Nina begin to have hallucinations making her question what is real and what is not.
