Entrusted with watching the boy at the time of his disappearance the blame falls onto their teenage daughter Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy). The twins of the family accuse Thomasin of using witchcraft which sends the family spiraling toward destruction even faster.

Jay (Maika Monroe) goes on a date with a charming guy named Hugh (Jake Weary). As things intensify, the two sleep with each other. Jay discovers that Hugh had a curse which he passed onto her through sex. She soon learns the frightening reality that the person carrying the curse has a mysterious entity that follows them intending to kill them.
The entity disguises itself as a friend or stranger. The only way to get rid of the curse, and the entity, is to have sex and pass it on to someone else. If the cursed person dies, the curse returns to the previous holder. Jay must convince her friends to believe her and help her or she will meet a gruesome end.
