A nameless, depressed, insomniac (Edward Norton) led a relatively dull life as an automobile recall specialist. To relieve his emotional tension, he attends support groups to pose as someone who suffers from testicular cancer. But, his life of lies is about to have a wrench thrown into it.

He used the support groups as a remedy for his insomnia. However, another imposter named Marla Singer makes his self medicating routine useless. Her presence at the meeting serves as a reminder to him that he attends these groups dishonestly and doesn’t suffer from what he says he does.

Everything changes though when he meets a carefree, nearing insane, soap salesman named Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt). The two men start an underground fight club with strict rules that members can’t break. However, beating each other senseless doesn’t seem to solve the problems in these men’s lives.
