Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) is about to have his life flipped upside down when his 6-year-old daughter, Anna, has gone missing with her friend. Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) is the head of the investigation into the disappearance of his daughter. The only lead in the investigation was a beat down motorhome that was parked on the street.

They arrest the driver but release him due to not having enough evidence. Unhappy with the progress the cops have made, Dover decides to take things into his own hands and will stop at nothing until he gets his daughter home safely.

Detective William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) decides to take on one final case with his new partner David Mills (Brad Pitt) before he retires. After discovering multiple horrifying murders they quickly come to the conclusion that they are dealing with a serial killer. The killer chooses his victims depending on whether he believes they represent one of the seven deadly sins.

As the two partners get deeper into the investigation the killer continues to tease and taunt them and even manages to get into the mind of one of the detectives.
