If there is one thing we are sure of is that the thing or creature, or whatever you want to call it, from Sinister is one of, if not the scariest, looking son of a gun we have ever seen. It alone gave us nightmares for days. That along with the intense psychological moments in the movie make it one of the great truly horrifying horror movies of our time. Because of this we have gone and searched for all the scariest movies like Sinister to watch and give ourselves heart attacks.

All of these are sure to make you feel like something is watching over you as you lay in bed trying to sleep. Some of these you may recognize while others, you may not. 1. The Conjuring

Starting off our list of movies like Sinister we have possibly one of the best horror movies ever created. Everything about the Conjuring is simply terrifying and great. There is also a second installment of this film as well as a third one that will soon be released!

Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed (Patrick Wilson) Warren work in the unusual field of paranormal investigators and demonologists. In the 1970s their newest case involves the Perron family who has asked for them to visit their home. The Perrons along with their five daughters had recently moved into a new farmhouse. It isn’t long before an unnatural presence makes itself known to the family. At first, the supernatural events occurring are harmless. However, they quickly escalate into something much more sinister after the Warrens uncover the history of the house.

2. Insidious

Next up we have the first Insidious. Now, there are three other Insidious films and don’t get us wrong we thoroughly enjoyed them but the first one is the best as well as, in our opinion, the scariest. It’s one you can’t miss.

Insidious Movie Description

Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) and his wife Renai (Rose Byrne) along with their three children decide it’s time to move to a new home. While in their new home, their oldest son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) goes into a coma after hitting his head exploring the house. Doctors are unable to confirm what has caused his coma. Throughout the next three months, strange events have begun to occur around the house making Renai believe it’s haunted. She manages to convince Josh to move once again.

However, this doesn’t solve the problem as the entity seems to have followed them. They decide to hire Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) and her ghost hunter team to help. As Dalton continues to worsen it is now up to Elise to rid the sinister spirit which is holding him captive.

3. 1408

If you ever want a reason not to go to places that have a reputation of being haunted then just give this movie a watch! Why would you even want to go to such a place!? Nothing good can come from going somewhere that’s haunted!

Mike Enslin (John Cusack) makes his living as a successful author who goes around the world debunking supernatural claims. That is until he comes across the Dolphin Hotel. He decides to ignore all the warnings from the hotel’s manager and checks in anyways. It isn’t long before he experiences what true fear is when he decides to spend the night in a room that has a big reputation for being haunted.

4. The Ring (2002)

Now we’ve come to The Ring! Don’t get this confused with Rings which is the 2017 release and absolutely sucked. Stick to the original for this one for sure! You’ll never look at a TV the same after watching this movie! You have been warned!

A videotape has emerged which contains disturbing images that lead to a phone call that predicts the death of the viewer in exactly seven days. Because it sounds like any other urban legend, Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts), a news reporter, is skeptical about this story. That is until four young teens end up dead exactly one week after watching the tape. Rachel ends up tracking down the tape and watching it letting her curiosity get the best of her. She now has seven days to uncover the truth before she finds out just how curiosity killed the cat.

5. Mama

What a great surprise it must be to find long lost kids just to have them bring a demon into your home! This movie is terrifying and you’ll definitely be having nightmares about Mama. You’ll never be able to erase her from your mind once you see her.

Lilly (Isabelle Nélisse) and Victoria (Megan Charpentier) mysteriously disappear into the woods after their parents die. This causes a hopeless and frantic search for them by their Uncle Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend, Annabel (Jessica Chastain). With no luck, five years later, the girls are found alive in an old broken down cabin. Shocked at the fact, Lucas and Annabel invite them to stay in their home. The two try to get the young girls accustomed to regular life. However, it isn’t long before they realize something or someone else still wants to put the two girls to sleep at night.

6. The Pact

This is definitely a less well-know horror film. And it’s sad that not everyone knows about it because it is one hell of a horror thriller movie! If you haven’t seen this one go ahead and change that now!

Annie (Caity Lotz) a recovering drug addict decides to return to her family’s home to care for her sister after the death of their mother. The home contains nothing but unpleasant and horrible memories of Annie’s childhood. However, this time something much worse than bad memories decides to welcome Annie home.

7. Here Comes The Devil

To end our list of movies like Sinister we have some more kids that end up lost! Except for this time, it’s at some caves. Not like that mattered because the consequences are just as terrifying as getting lost in the woods. Just look at that image up above for the trailer! We want nothing to do with that!

On a family trip in Tijuana, Mexico, a married couple loses their son and daughter at a mountainside riddled with caves. They reappear the next day but something has changed within them. They begin to become distant and start acting strange. Their parents are fast at assuming something horrible must have happened to them in those caves. They begin to hear terrifying legends about the area and they begin to realize that their kids may have fallen victims to something sinister and not human, which they have mistakenly brought home with them.
