The Alien series contains some of the best space horror films ever created. You simply cannot hate on the movies if you like the space, alien, and horror genres. Though we will say we could have done without the Alien Vs Predator movies. Those will not be on this list just because they really don’t tie in with anything and overall just suck.

With “newer” Alien movies such as Prometheus and Covenant being released that may leave you wondering about the Alien movies’ timeline and which order you should watch these films in. Because of that, we have decided to put together all the Alien movies in order of release date and in chronological order. We just finished rewatching all these films in the proper chronological order which was epic! There are still some gaps which new movies could fill giving us hope that a new addition to the series is in the works! 1. Alien (1976)

The crew of the commercial starship the Nostromo has been awakened from their cryo-sleep when a distress call from an alien vessel is intercepted. Due to the law, they must go investigate it and put off their journey back home until they uncover what’s wrong. The horrors start when the team comes upon a nest of alien eggs inside the alien ship. When one of the creatures from the eggs attaches itself to one of the crew members’ faces and puts him in a coma, one thing becomes clear. They should have never stopped their journey home.

2. Aliens (1986)

Lt. Ripley’s (Sigourney Weaver) shuttle has been found in deep space by a salvage team after floating around for 57 endless years. Once they arrive at LV-426, there is only one survivor. A 9-year-old girl named Newt (Carrie Henn). The crew is in for a major reckoning. Even these battle-hardened marines serve no match for the countless numbers of aliens that have invaded and killed off the colony.

3. Alien 3 (1992)

After crash landing on the planet Fiorina 161, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) finds herself being the only surviving member of her crew. The dying planet is the home of former maximum-security prison inmates. Ripley finds herself in an uncanny situation once again and is put under scrutiny and skepticism. The alien begins to hunt down all the guards and inmates leaving a trail of blood and bodies wherever it goes. Now, against all odds and without any modern technology or weapons, Ripley must lead the men around her into battle against the sinister creature which has dismantled the life of countless people.

4. Alien: Resurrection (1997)

It has been 200 years since Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) gave her life in order to kill the alien queen and save humanity. The company which once employed Ripley has since then been dissolved. Now, the military is tasked with breeding and controlling the deadly aliens. Scientists have managed to clone Ripley using samples from her previous life so that they can extract the alien queen inside of her.

This new Ripley contains both the DNA of the alien and the old Ripley. Due to this, her emotional state is unstable and it makes her question where her allegiance lies. When the aliens escape and begin killing and terrorizing the crew, Ripley must find a way to escape the deadly ship. Along the way, she makes a discovery that pits her against both humanity and the alien race. She has very little time to decide who she truly is if she wants to save the human race once again.

5. Prometheus (2012)

A clue has been found on Earth that may lead to the answer mankind has forever longed for. Where do we come from? The discovery leads a team of explorers the darkest outskirts of the universe. Leading the team are two brilliant scientists. Shaw (Noomi Rapace) hopes the beings they meet are benevolent and may in someway answer their religious beliefs. While Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) wants to disprove any religious and spiritual notions. But when they finally arrive neither scientists nor crew members could have ever prepared for the horrors which happen next.

6. Alien: Covenant (2017)

The colony ship known as the covenant believes they have discovered a paradise planet on their way to another planet on the other side of the galaxy. They make a stop on this stunning planet and meet a synthetic survivor from the deadly Prometheus expedition named David (Michael Fassbender). This beautiful world quickly takes a dark and sinister turn when aliens begin attacking the crew forcing them to fight for their survival.
