Different films take place in their own timelines or simply have nothing to do with one another. Think of the Batman series almost as the James Bond series. Each actor that has portrayed Batman has his own set of films. Because of this, it may end up confusing people as to what order these batman films go in. That’s where we come in! Now you know how to watch all the Batman films in chronological order! As you can see, they don’t all go together. Each set of Batman is part of its own little universe. Now, we’ll cover all the Batman movies in order of their release dates. You’ll also find a small description of each film, as well as where you can watch the movies!

Batman Movie Description

Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton), a millionaire philanthropist by day, also fights crime in Gotham City at night. He does this by dressing up as Batman and striking fear into the hearts of villains. However, when a deformed madman named The Joker (Jack Nicholson) takes over the criminal underworld, Batman must face his most ruthless nemesis yet.

Batman Returns Movie Description

The Madman named Penguin (Danny DeVito) who lives in the sewers joins up with a wicked businessman in order to get rid of The Batman (Michael Keaton). When the businessman’s assistant finds out, she turns into Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer). She soon teams up with Penguin and the businessman to destroy Batman, however, things go awry when she starts to catch feelings for The Bat.

Batman Forever Movie Description

Harvey Dent (Tommy Lee Jones), also known as Two-Face, is a schizophrenic and former District Attorney who seeks revenge on Bruce Wayne (Val Kilmer) by unleashing a brain-sucking weapon on Gotham City’s residents. Batman, also known as the caped crusader, faces off against Two-Face and the Riddler (Jim Carrey), another disgruntled ex-Wayne Enterprises inventor. As the masked hero attempts to recover from the traumatic experiences of his parents’ death, he sparks up a romance with psychologist Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman).

Batman & Robin Movie Description

As Batman (George Clooney) and Robin (Chris O’Donnell) battle a new set of nefarious villains, including the melancholy Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and the sultry Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman), a third hero, Batgirl (Alicia Silverstone), joins the fight. These bad guys are determined to make Gotham into an arctic region or turn all the citizens into plants, but the Dynamic Duo is more than up for the challenge. Together, they will stop at nothing to protect their city.

Batman Begins Movie Description

As a young man, Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) journeys to the Far East, where he trains under the tutelage of Henri Ducard (Liam Neeson), a member of the League of Shadows. Ducard reveals to Wayne the League’s true purpose, the complete destruction of Gotham City. Unhappy with the League’s purpose, Wayne returns to Gotham to rid the city of criminal scum without resorting to murder. Not long after his return the legendary Batman is born. Along with Alfred (Michael Caine) and Lucius (Morgan Freeman), Batman begins to fight crime on the streets of Gotham marking the beginning of his mission to rebuild the city into something better.

The Dark Knight Movie Description

The Joker (Heath Ledger) has disturbed the peace in Gotham City by throwing the town into chaos. Batman (Christian Bale), with the help of Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and DA Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), has been able to keep crime at an all-time low in Gotham. However, the Joker’s vile actions have forced Batman to walk a fine line between heroism and vigilantism.

The Dark Knight Rises Movie Description

When Batman (Christian Bale) vanished into the night eight years ago, assuming responsibility for the death of Harvey Dent, many thought he was gone for good. However, When a crafty cat burglar (Anne Hathaway) and a relentless terrorist known as Bane (Tom Hardy) arrive in Gotham City, Batman is forced out of hiding and into a battle he may not be prepared for.

Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck), is one of the many infuriated people who believe Superman (Henry Cavill) is a threat to humanity. Bruce can’t support the number of lives lost during Superman’s massive battle with Zod (Michael Shannon), which nearly destroyed the entire city. Batman has now made it his mission to stop Superman at all costs. But Superman has more than Batman to worry about. He’s also got Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) coming after him.

Batman (Ben Affleck), along with Wonder Woman (Gal Godot), begins recruiting a series of heroes to join their elite team. Known as the Justice League, they must prepare to save Earth from the biggest threat it’s ever faced. They’ve only got one shot, and without Superman (Henry Cavill), their odds aren’t looking too great.

That’s about it for all the Batman movies in release date order. We didn’t put Suicide Squad up there because Batman only made a small cameo in it, so we don’t really consider it a Batman movie. We are not done yet though! If you are trying to differentiate which actor is in each Batman movie, we’ve made some simple tables to show you! So far, 6 different actors have assumed the role of Batman! That includes Robert Pattison, whose movie isn’t out as of now. (February 22, 2022)
